are there clubs in different areas??? I'd be particularly interested in the Bordeaux region as well have family there so could have a base for training etc. _________________ These are my personal opinions and do not represent in any way the views of the WCGB.
In France, there's very few training clubs for hunting dogs.
Most of us train alone or with friends on private grounds.
BORDEAUX is a nice region for us. There's a lot of hunting clubs on private grounds where you can train the whole year. It's more free than here. I spent 12 years there.
But you can only train for BICP or planted game. To train for our biggest FT (spring FT), people go near PARIS and near ROUEN where there's more wild partridges.
My Weim went 1 month in Spain and came 1 week in MARNE before the FT. ( Even he earned a 4° EXC in all breed spring FT in spain).
He runs actually in braces against other breeds.
I hope a 1srt place CACT to become the first breed FT CH 4 crosses (CACT in solo planted game, CACT in braces planted game, CACT in solo wild game, and CACT in braces wild game).
We have the 3 first CACT...
A most interesting thread - I had not spotted it before. We are just back from running spring trial near Fontainbleau. Our very first - Topaz ran well but was unplaced. No dogs in our group made a point.
A couple of questions.
There are a lot of professional handlers - who seem to get most of the awards, now I appreciate if you handle a lot of dogs you have more experience and with more experience comes more results, I also see you are going to run your dog with a professional - does this mean an amateur handler is unlikely to ever win?
Carnet de Travail - as we are not a LOF dog and the UK does not use the 'carnet de travail' record keeping system there was a brief moment when it was thought we could not compete. Can one obtain a carnet for other than LOF dogs or could I make up something of ones own? (so judge and committee have something to write in) And if so could you scan and post a page?
I have to say I had a good day and will go back next year for both, indeed probably organise it so I do more than one trial. There were Dutch, German, Swiss, Danish, handlers there - the social bit is very good.
One thing that did strike me was the speed of the dogs - _________________ Guy; Ellie Topaz Catja. http://www.epagneulbreton.org.uk
Hi Guy !
Yes, the speed of the dogs is very impressive that's why it is very hard for our weims to get placements. I have to say I'm very proud of my weim ans his carrier.
Of course signle people can get placements and win. But most of these have a job and few time to train.
I handled my dog myself and earned some EXC and CACT placements, but the level is now to high for me. That's why I choose to give my dog to a profesional trainer who trained in spain since january.
Yes, to get a CARNET DE TRAVAIL, you need to have a LOF number. Even, you don't have it, may you could write the placement on the back of your pedigree ?
