Hi
Beecham passed his Gold Good Citizen this morning. I think it quite an achievement in the heat. I was certainly flagging! In fact, 3 out of 4 passed the Gold (one didn't stop quick enough) and 6 out of 7 passed the Silver (one got up to scratch during the stay & the handler returned to him).
My friend doing the Silver was asked an unusual question:
'Your friend announces she's pregnant, what do you do?'
She said that she would make sure her dogs didn't jump up. This was incorrect. Two of us taking the Gold couldn't think of a suitable answer either and, unfortunately, we heard about it too late to ask the examiner. Apparently, the examiner definitely meant 'pregnant' and not 'has a baby' so the new baby in the family didn't apply and nor did the children & dog stuff. I could only think of worms. Apparently, the answer is on the green sheet... I couldn't find it. I'm intrigued now. Any ideas? Allyson?

My answer to that would be to congratulate you friend
Had a look through the green sheet to and couldnt find anything relavent as such. The only thing i can think of is the parasite side of things ...not handling the faeces etc. Cats are more understandable in that area with Toxoplasmosis... so ????
Could be to advise friend to "ensure the dog continues to recieve the same love and treatment" once the baby is born
Tricky one there

Congratulations on your gold Sue.
As for the question, I have no idea what the answer to that is or what relevance it would have under the KCGCS. I try not to ask hypothetical questions when I examine there are plenty of questions that are of real import to every dog owner; therefore I would not ask questions about pregnancy, whelping, stud dog duties etc.
the scheme is designed to test the training of the dog and the knowledge of the owner/handler on relevant issues.
What my friend does in her spare time is of course entirely up to her! _________________ Nothing could be finer than to work a Weimaraner! |

attempt 2 - first one disappeared into the ether!
Thank you all very much. Beecham was very excited to have passed and loved all the clapping so much when the certificates were handed out that he attempted to prance up to collect the certificate of the dog in front of him!!
Also, thanks very much for the thoughts re the unusual question. I'm glad that no one can come up with a definitive answer either!!
Best wishes

Arrow passed his bronze yesterday at Bowood House and so I had a quick gander at the questions to refresh my memory.
FWIW I think your examiner asked a question that was outside the remit of the test.
Incidentally the standard of the testing was appalling with three attempts and in one case considerably more given to the dogs I observed.
I am proud to say that Arrow well deserved his Bronze and I would have passed us! _________________ Nothing could be finer than to work a Weimaraner! |
