I don't know the law as it applies to starting pistols. To get around this problem I have bought one of the dummies that bang when thrown. I have found that it often fails to bang when thrown but does bang when held and used in much the same way as a dummy launcher.
This will be used when I start teaching sit to shot.
I am within the law (for once ) . Has anyone else used the 8mm blank firers for dog training - WOW they are LOUD but the downside is that the blanks are very expensive compared to the .22 !!! (£16.50 for 50 blanks).

I have just topped up on blanks - whilst in France went to a very nice gunsmith who was not impressed with the state of my starting pistol or dummy launcher and gave both a good clean paid 33 euro for 100 .22 blanks and 17 euro for 50 9mm blanks. about £23 and 11.90. Clean was free.
The .22 are long blanks (as were my old ones) but seem to have more of a kick !! well my thumb thought so and the dog started hunting for the dummy yards short of it (idle little mutt) _________________ Guy; Ellie Topaz Catja. http://www.epagneulbreton.org.uk
