Belle, Caesarian and 5 puppies
What a night!

Just back on after last evening's traumatic visit to the vet.  I noticed a black discharge from Belle at teatime and knew that was either a dead pup or a detached placenta so phone our vet and spoke to Michelle, rushed her down to the main surgery half an hour's drive away - at breakneck speed hoping there were no police cars on the back roads to Milnathort!  My vet reckoned I was right about the diagnosis after examining Belle.  She wasn't dilated and had started to abort.  The options were oxytocin and let her whelp them two days early, but Michelle reckoned we had a better chance of saving the pups if we did a Caesar.  So it was all systems go.  Scrubbed up, IC incubator warmed up, incision made and uterus taken out onto her tum. Five pups down one horn - only one mummified pup in the other. So the trainee vet, Iain (only joking - he is Michelle's boyfriend but as much a rookie in vet stuff as I am), and I set to rubbing them as they came out and putting them in the intensive care  incubator as soon as they started to breath.  After a noisy night with my jumping out of bed every whimper, they are now warm, settled, feeding and QUIET!  Belle is still a but 'hangdogged' after the anaesthetic and stitches down her middle, but starting to eat as well, albeit a little fussy.

I'm exhausted!   I missed out on my salmon steak last night and it  doesn't taste so good reheated  Pocket is lighter to the tune of £350 but worth it for the experience and having my little girl safe and sound.  Guess that will be the last Aberdon litter so here's hoping for 5 FT Champs  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing
