I am currently looking for a working bred HPR pup.One of the breeders i have been in touch with has quoted me £100 more for a bitch pup than a dog pup?.How can this be?.Surely it costs the same to feed them, dock them, and generaly rear them both? Or is it reflecting the possible future earnings off the bitch pup?.Surely people that charge more for a bitch than a dog are having our pants down?,because these are the people that say they are not in it for the money Embarassed

A lot of breeders do charge more for a dog than a bitch but then there are others who dont, when i had my one and only litter of pointers i charged the same amount for dogs and bitches,i have to say i have never paid more for a bitch than a dog.

Lots of people believe that bitches ( I tend to agree) make better workers than dogs. Ergo, price premium! In addition a lot of pet owners feel bitches are more placid and biddable than dogs, again they are prepared to pay more.
This is only a personal view but there is nothing wrong in helping to defray the costs of a litter by selling pups for as much as possible in the hope that their new owners will value them more and treat them accordingly.

From hearsay pups are not selling well at all just now regardless of which sex.  Probably credit crunch.  All my pups are the same price, but then they are nearly always booked ahead of time.

As I am probably the "breeder" that you refer to I am happy to charge you the same for a dog or bitch if you prefer but it will be at the bitch price.  I have five people that want bitches and one that wants a dog so reduced the price of dogs to encourage people to have a dog.  If you think I am in it for the money you must be jocking.  One trips to France to choose a good stud dog, and another to do the deed, stud fees, tail docking and microchipping, kennel club fees etc.  The ONLY reason that I am breeding is becuase I am ready for another Griffon.  Both the bitch and Dog prices quoted to you were I think the cheapest you will find for a Griffon, so I "wont be having your pants down"

It is not you i was refering to at all. When you replied to my email you quoted me one price,i did not mention dog or bitch at all, neither did you mention dogs or bitches. Embarassed  Embarassed .I do not know why you thought it was you????.

Perhaps it is better to continue this discussion via PM or email, as it seems to be something personal now?  Thanks.
