Am trying to remember the recall exercise you taught us Allyson with two people.
One calls them and has goodies and the other not. But can't remember what the other person has to do.

The owner may have goodies or not, the other person has very high value goodies and tempts the dog away but does NOT use the dog’s name and does NOT give the dog food. The dog will try to mug the helper for food but will not succeed, as the dog loses interest, the owner calls dog, if necessary moving backwards with encouraging sounds; helper follows dog up and gives owner the food to give to dog.
Distance is increased, speed is increased until the dog will come back like a speeding bullet!
This teaches the dog that whatever the temptation the owner has something better and/or it will always get rewarded for recalling.
Start in a room or a hall, then progress to outside. _________________ Nothing could be finer than to work a Weimaraner! |
