I hope I'm posting this to the right place! Training dogs, especially gundogs has been a trial a tribulation and a sheer delight to me for more years than I like to think about. I have trained guide dogs, obedience dogs, a few spaniels, (not to any great standard!) and have competed in trials and tests with labradors, a brittany and a g.s.p.
In the past I have been the trainer for an obedience club and a working retriever club and still try to help out with a h.p.r. club.
At present I have two G.S.P.'s ,one getting on a bit and one 12 week old puppy. I also have a young Brit. or at least I did the last time I looked!!
Unfortunately I can't shoot anymore and I can't "get out there" to my dogs in the way I used to but I still very much enjoy doing a bit of hunting , some picking up and trying to help other people train their dogs, whether they be retrievers or h.p.r.'s , I suspect, however, that my training ideas are now a bit outdated. What's a "clicker ?"--- Does it work at 200 yards ??
PS A clicker is a small box shaped thing with a piece of metal in it which makes a "click" sound when you press it. The idea is that you pair the click with a piece of food, by repeating "click", feed dog, click, feed dog etc etc. In this way the click comes to signify the food. Here is a link which explains more: http://www.thegundogclub.co.uk/Reference/training/clicker/index.htm _________________ Slate and Grey

Your in good company here , likewise the title of your post...I have found a kindred spirit at last. I mean at least if your training goes wrong you know what you've done......with a computer...if only
