Chicken frames, green tripe and an "Own brand" dog food from my tripe supplier, made by Chudleys and costing £8/bag. Cost per dog about £1.70 / week.

Chudley's cheap and cheerful, have a look at the ingredients made by a big company for profit, Challenge made by top dog breeder because they love dogs, your choice.

My dogs only get the dog food between the chicken and the tripe, for a change and if for some reason said chicken or tripe hasn't defrosted sufficiently. Doesn't happen that often in the summer but happens quite often in the winter. If you want to come and show me how well your dogs can last over an eight hour day you may just convert me to Challenge.............but I doubt it. You don't have to pay through the nose for quality but then again I suppose some people only think something is high quality if it is expensive.
Oh and by the way I know quite a few Top Dog Breeders, and not one of them uses Challenge.

I feed Challenge mainly as I have a dog that does not tolerate grain including rice and the Salmon and Potato has been super, this is not fad but a serious life/death issue (bloat) and sadly he has done it (bloating that is) loads if he has had grain in even small quantites. I also feed raw meats and bones ................

Diet is an emotive subject and we all have to decide. I like Challenge as IMVHO it is a good value food that my dogs enjoy and thrive on, my food bill has reduced.

At the moment I have 110kg of dog and two 15kg sacks of Challenge feed them for 4 weeks which is very reasonable in my budget, I will add in prob £15 worth of RMB's and some freebies from another butcher but their main feed is covered. In the past I have spent similar on one dog!!!

Challenge is half the price of Purina and the likes, and a bit dearer than Chudley's but without the crap, and as for top breeders, Bareve is the most successful GWP kennel in the UK and you only have to look at the entries on this topic, we all have different views. and as for an 8 hour day I know Wildfowlers that feed Challenge, the dogs are out on the salt marshes on the Wash from 3am till 9am with no rest breaks, and that's roughing it.

I feed Challenge.  I liked the idea of feeding Salmon and Potato as opposed to feeding a diet full of grain, ie rice.  I feed the maintenance to my oldie and the performance to my youngster and both love it.  I have to say that my oldie spins round in circles now when its feeding time and although she was happy on her previous food and always scoffed it she never danced around in circles  Laughing

I'm a firm believer in that you only get what you pay for  Smile
